Downtown parking

I’ve had to use downtown parking garages a lot recently. Without exception, every single one is guilty of a totally despicable practice–hiding their fees from plain sight. The fee menus are tucked away from street view, usually at an inward angle, right next to the machine that belches out tickets. By the time you see how much you’re in for, it’s near impossible to back out of the driveway without killing a pedestrian or forcing other cars to follow your lead.

How is this practice not illegal? Shouldn’t I be able to see how much a garage charges before it’s too late, and I have to commit to parking there?

It’s a despicable, loathsome, practice–one I’m surprised hasn’t been brought up before.
