90s in 90 Days #51-Smoking Popes have heart

I dug up this old Popes performance from roughly 94-95, an in-studio version of the Willie Nelson song “Valentine.”
I have especially fond memories of this song and the Popes.   Around the time of “Destination Failure,” Smoking Popes frontman Josh Caterer dedicated this song to me at a Double Door show that they headlined.  It wasn’t necessary; the band had me at “Get Fired.”

90s in 90 Days

Over the course of 90 days (not consecutive, though I’ll try), I’ll be offering up a capsule look at something about Chicago music from the 90s.  It could be a radio memory.  Thoughts on a song, show, band, or album.  Maybe a review aided by hindsight.  Whatever it is, it’ll be original content just for this site, and not found in my book.
