90s in 90 Days #78: Birth of the Bottle

Empty Bottle, started as a shot and beer bar in Ukranian Village, evolved into a live music venue a few doors down from its original location in 1993.

Owner Bruce Finkelman explains, “We started off as a little bar down the street; we didn’t have live music at all. I had just got out of college and helped open up some restaurants, and I really wanted some place that somebody could go out and have a good time with a limited budget. Our philosophy was that if you created a place that you liked, then there’d be some people out there who’d also like it, too. “

90s in 90 Days
Over the course of 90 days (not consecutive, though I’ll try), I’ll be offering up a capsule look at something about Chicago music from the 90s. It could be a radio memory. Thoughts on a song, show, band, or album. Maybe a review aided by hindsight. Whatever it is, it’ll be original content just for this site, and not found in my book.
