90s in 90 Days #83: Liquid Soul

Liquid Soul band leader Mars Williams talks about the
group’s origin and early rapid momentum, “I think with Liquid Soul, the common thread
is a groove. It basically started off using hip hop and jazz. But we always
went beyond that, putting Latin feels (in the music, and) whatever came up. So that’s basically how
it started in the Elbo Room. You’d get 20 people, and the next week it’s 35,
and the next week it’s double that and double that and double that. We ended up having to move on the the Double Door.”

90s in 90 Days
Over the course of 90 days (not consecutive, though I’ll try), I’ll be offering up a capsule look at something about Chicago music from the 90s. It could be a radio memory. Thoughts on a song, show, band, or album. Maybe a review aided by hindsight. Whatever it is, it’ll be original content just for this site, and not found in my book.
